The rare magnum opus of an Irish Catholic priest, born in County Kildare, who became a prominent spokesman for Irish Catholics and an opponent of their persecution under the Penal Laws. Ex-library, with the usual markings, including the library name stamped on the front and rear boards, and a stamp periodically to pages throughout the textblock. Externally very worn and chipped, spine perished, boards detached, some leaves and sections of the textblock splitting away.
Title page has a large tear, repaired with a large patch verso. A section of about 90 pages has significant dampstain (shown in two pictures - one fairly representative of the affected pages, the other showing the worst of it). A few pages at the end also show some dampstain. Two pages are affected by small holes, in each case obliterating a couple of letters. There is sporadic foxing; there are some smudges, some creases and small tears; one page has a name in ink, and several pages have a few ink stains/smudges.The item "1720 CORNELIUS NARY A New History of the World IRISH CATHOLIC PRIEST Dublin" is in sale since Monday, July 11, 2016.
