1812 Colour Map Of The World On Mercators Projection Western Part By Neele

  

I have here for sale a large folded colour map entitled THE WORLD ON MERCATOR'S PROJECTION WESTERN PART by Neele. Published by T Cadell and Davies, London in 1812. It covers the area from Kamtschatka in the Russian far east on the left edge, across North America and South America, part of Greenland and then UK and western Europe to the right edge.

South Seas to bottom edge. It is one of the plates from Pinkerton's Modern Atlas which was his main cartographic work. Pinkerton was a celebrated master of the Edinburgh school of cartography which lasted from roughly 1800 to 1830. Pinkerton, along with John Thomson & Co. And John Cary, redefined cartography by exchanging the elaborate cartouches and fantastical beasts used in the 18th century for more accurate detail. One horizontal fold across the middle and one small tear to the right side edge of the fold. It measures 84 x 55 cm. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then it will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
