The frontispiece is an engraving entitled, The Pioneers, with an animated team of horses pulling a carriage with a group of settlers. The tissue is in place for the frontispiece. There are approximately 41 other illustrations, including 26 which are hand colored. This book is in very good condition for age. The cover has a beautiful gilt floral design with some fading as shown. The head and tail of the spine show wear. There is light wear at the corners. The hinges are holding but are fragile. A previous bookseller has made penciled notes on the inside front cover. The pages and plates are in very good condition with only an occasional stain. The pages are marbled on 3 sides. There is no internal writing.There are no missing pages, no dog ears, and no tears. There are 752 numbered pages and the book weighs about 2 3/4 pounds. It is 9 by 6 inches and 2 1/4 inches thick.
