Sound clean copy of this decoratively bound early science fiction novel by the wealthy business man, science enthusiast and Titanic victim, John Jacob Astor.

In publisher's decorative trade binding of blue cloth with elaborate silver patterning to cover and spine, a silver solar system to rear board and title lettering brightly in gilt. Cloth lightly crimped with trace fray at spine ends; corners lightly shelf tapped.

Prior ownership penned to front endpage and an early bookseller price and notation of scarcity same page. Mild toning to page stock. Coated light blue endpages; rear endpage has had the top third scissored away.

Frontis by Kurtz and 9 plates on glossy stock, most from drawings by Dan Beard are clean. Astor speculates with considerable insight about Earth in 2000 and writes of several interplanetary journeys aboard the Callisto. His journey abord the Titanic much more tragic.
