Book: The book is tight but does have some water damage to the front board lower edge merging onto the tail of the spine.There is paper residue stuck to the front board upper edge and inner fold, both have dents to the boards in the same place. Shelf wear to the edges and corners with rubbing, bumps, dents (some heavy), nicks which are mainly to the water damaged edge and general age related marks. The head and tail are bruised, creased and have minor nicks (more to the water damaged tail). Rubbed patch to the rear inner edge with a small hole/loss. The front board has slight give wear the glue has started to deteriorate to the pastedown/spine.
The pages are toning, more so to the edges. Some of the fold out maps have small creases to either the corner or edge due to poor folding. Trivial spotting, mainly to the end-papers and pastedowns. The water damage to the front board is visible to the front pastedown and the fep. Some dog-eared corners and unfolded corners.
Small bumps to some for-edges. Previous owners signature and pencil mark to the fep. The map of page 80 is slightly protruding on the top-edge. The closed page edges are toned and a little grubby with spotting, dust marks and age related marks Some minor bumps to the edges. A good first edition copy with a scarce signature.

The binding would still be tight with no missing or damaged pages. Generally there will be no major defects but it may have minor defects. A dust wrapper may be price clipped with very minor bruising in places. There might be minor fading to the colours. (VG): A typical used book which is no longer fresh and crisp.It might have ownership marks or book plates. It is still complete and will have no major defects. The cloth on the boards might be slightly faded or bruised in places.
Light toning to page edges or text block. A dust jacket in very good condition may have a few minor flaws such as a closed tear or minor chip or chipping etc or be price clipped.
(G): A well worn, used book but one which still has all of its pages. It should have no more than one major defect such as a cracked hinge(s), or damp staining. More pronounced foxing, spotting, bruising etc. Dust wrapper may have major tears, heavy chipping or tape repairs, fading etc. Very Major Defects could include water damage, binding breaks, underlining in text, large tears, pages missing, ex-library copies and or soiling damage. Major Defects could include small tears, spine slant (roll), rip to the cloth or paper binding, hinge or joint of binding starting to separate. Minor Defects could include fading, bruising, minor bumps and or soiling of the cloth or paper binding, dust jacket scuffed, rubbed, chipped, nicked, light soiling, minor chipping on any edges.
