New Map of the World Latest Observations w/ California as an Island Senex London. London 1721 copper engraved double hemispheric world map with period hand colouring in outline. Size 17 7/8" x 23 1/2 ". This world map includes lovely allegorical representations of the four continents flanking the cartouche.

At the corners are circular insets projection maps and at the bottom center is an armillary sphere flanked by two figures. Cartographically, the map includes a depiction of California as an island. Much of the northwest coast of America and the eastern coast of Australia are un-mapped. Please note the insect holes in the sphere at lower left.

There is also a tiny hole between the words North and America. Has a Fleur De Lis watermark and a period date in pencil at lower right. Please use the photos for further condition examination. Please super-size pictures for further condition and description details.
