In 1929, " The Ghan Express " began its journey to Stuart (now Alice Springs) carrying passengers, livestock and supplies. In the beginning, these trips were very uncomfortable and often dangerous. On the way, the train often faced fires, severe weather, floods, and once, due to a breakdown, passengers were even forced to spend two whole weeks in the desert. Now this route has become a tourist route and is known as Gan.

The Great Southern Railroad route expanded from Adelaide in South Australia to Alice Springs, all the way to Darwin in the Northern Territory. The 2,979 km trail takes four days and three nights and includes excursions by train to Catherine, Alice Springs and Coober Pedy. And now 90 years have passed. As you can imagine, the Royal Australian Mint could not fail to mark such an event with the release of a new coin. It's 50 cents with enamel.
